Tax invoice review
Invoices and credit notes checked.
Filing VAT returns on time is only part of UAE VAT compliance. Tax invoices must meet legal requirements, records must be kept for years, supplies must be treated correctly and systems must be ready for e-invoicing. We review and maintain your VAT compliance so returns are right and an FTA audit holds no surprises.
When the Federal Tax Authority audits a business, it rarely stops at the return. It looks at tax invoices, contracts, customs records, evidence for zero rating and how input VAT was calculated. VAT compliance means getting that detail right every day, not only at filing time.
The UAE VAT law sets out what a tax invoice must contain, when it must be issued, and when a simplified invoice may be used. Credit notes must follow similar rules. Businesses must keep records of supplies, purchases, imports, exports and adjustments for the period the law requires, generally at least five years, with longer periods for real estate. Each supply must be treated correctly: standard-rated at 5%, zero-rated where conditions and evidence are met, exempt where the law provides, or outside the scope of UAE VAT.
Specific areas need attention. Designated zones have their own rules for goods. Real estate distinguishes residential, commercial and first supplies. Related party and deemed supplies, such as gifts and goods used for private purposes, may create VAT. Errors in past returns above the threshold in the law must be corrected through voluntary disclosure, and FTA audits require records to be produced promptly in an organised form. E-invoicing will become mandatory in phases, from 1 January 2027 for businesses with revenue of AED 50 million or more and from 1 July 2027 for others, so invoicing systems and processes need updating. Businesses using simplified or summary invoices should check that they qualify to do so.
Our compliance reviews test a sample of invoices, contracts and adjustments each quarter, check that VAT codes in your accounting system match the treatment of each supply, and confirm that evidence for zero rating and input recovery is on file. Findings are reported with fixes, so problems are corrected before they become audit issues. Where an FTA audit is announced, we organise the requested records, prepare reconciliations between returns and ledgers, and help you answer the auditor's questions clearly and on time.
VAT compliance sits alongside VAT return filing and corporate tax compliance. System changes for e-invoicing can be handled through our accounting system setup service.
