Cross-border tax

Tax mistakes across borders come from two returns that never compared notes

If you earn in one country and own property, run a business or keep savings in another, you may have filing obligations in both. Each country has its own authority, forms, deadlines and residency rules, and they do not talk to each other on your behalf.

Pakistan taxes its residents on their worldwide income, and residence depends largely on how many days you spend in the country. Non-residents can still owe tax on Pakistan-source income such as rent or bank profit. At the same time, the US, the UK and the UAE apply their own rules. Pakistan has tax treaties with all three, and foreign tax credits can prevent the same income being taxed twice, but only when both sides are filed correctly.

Our international tax team, led by our International Tax Lead, prepares filings with the IRS, HMRC and the UAE Federal Tax Authority and coordinates them with your Pakistan position. We work directly with individuals and businesses registered abroad, as well as Pakistani entities operating overseas. For your Pakistan side, see our individual tax return filing and Pakistan tax and compliance services.

The same income should tell the same story in every country you file in. Our job is to make sure it does.

Common mistakes

Where cross-border tax usually goes wrong

These are the issues we see most often when someone with income in two countries first comes to us.

01

Paying tax twice

Income taxed abroad can be taxed again in Pakistan when foreign tax credits or treaty relief are not claimed correctly.

We match credits across both returns.
02

Assuming you are non-resident

Residence in Pakistan turns largely on days spent in the country. Getting it wrong changes which income must be declared.

We confirm your status every year.
03

Foreign-owned US LLCs that never file

A US LLC owned by a non-US person generally still files Form 5472 with the IRS, even in a year with little or no income.

We file LLC information returns on time.
04

UAE corporate tax ignored

Businesses below the AED 375,000 profit threshold still generally need to register and file, and late registration attracts penalties.

We register and file for you.
05

Missed HMRC deadlines

A late UK Self Assessment return triggers an automatic penalty that grows the longer it stays unfiled.

We file ahead of 31 January.
06

Figures that do not match

The same income reported differently in two countries invites questions from both authorities.

One team prepares every return.

FAQs

International tax questions we hear most

Have a question that is not here? Send it to us on WhatsApp and we will reply the same day.

Do I need a Pakistani company to use your international tax services?
No. We work directly with individuals and businesses registered in the US, the UK and the UAE, as well as with Pakistani entities that operate overseas. Many of our international clients have no Pakistani company at all.
I live in the UAE. Do I still need to file a tax return in Pakistan?
It depends on your residency status and your income. Pakistan taxes residents on worldwide income, while non-residents are generally taxed only on Pakistan-source income such as rent or bank profit. Your filing status can also affect withholding rates on property and banking transactions. We review your position and tell you what is required.
What is the UAE corporate tax rate?
Under Federal Decree-Law No. 47 of 2022, UAE corporate tax is charged at 0% on taxable income up to AED 375,000 and 9% above that, with separate rules for qualifying free zone persons. Most businesses must register with the Federal Tax Authority and file a return even if they owe no tax.
Does a foreign-owned US LLC have to file with the IRS?
Generally, yes. A single-member US LLC owned by a non-US person is usually treated as a disregarded entity and must file Form 5472 with a pro forma Form 1120 to report transactions with its owner, even in a year with little or no income. Many states also require annual reports.
When is the UK Self Assessment deadline?
For online returns, the deadline is 31 January following the end of the tax year on 5 April, which is also when any balance of tax is due. Paper returns are due earlier, by 31 October. Late filing triggers automatic penalties.
Can income taxed abroad be taxed again in Pakistan?
It can be, unless relief is claimed. Pakistan has tax treaties with the US, the UK and the UAE, and Pakistani law allows a credit for foreign tax paid in many cases. Claiming that relief correctly needs both returns to be prepared consistently, which is what our team does.
Can you handle everything remotely?
Yes. Most of our international clients never visit our office. Documents can be shared on WhatsApp, by email or through our client portal, and we are available by phone and WhatsApp around the clock.
How much do international tax services cost?
Fees depend on the countries involved, the type of return and the volume of transactions. Your first consultation is free, and you receive a written quote for each country before any work starts.
