Accounting in Pakistan

Good books are the foundation every tax return and business decision sits on

Every return you file and every decision you make relies on your accounting records. When the books are late or wrong, tax returns stop reconciling, banks ask harder questions and problems are found months after they could have been fixed.

Companies in Pakistan must keep proper books of account under the Companies Act, 2017 and prepare financial statements under the reporting framework that applies to their size, whether full IFRS or the frameworks for smaller entities. Payroll brings its own obligations: income tax withheld from salaries under section 149 of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, EOBI contributions and provincial social security. Sole proprietors and partnerships need reliable records too, because FBR expects returns, wealth statements and bank data to agree.

Our Accounting & Payroll team gives you a dedicated accountant who knows your business, working in your existing software or one we recommend. Because the same firm files your income tax returns and sales tax returns, your accounts and filings come from the same records and tell the same story.

Taking over from another accountant? We review the existing books, fix gaps and errors and take over, even mid-year, without losing anything in the handover.
Common mistakes

Where accounting usually goes wrong

These are the issues we find most often when we take over a set of books.

01

Books kept for tax only

Records updated once a year for the return leave you without the numbers you need to run the business.

We close your books every month.
02

Unreconciled bank accounts

Differences between the books and the bank grow into unexplained balances that FBR and auditors question.

We reconcile every account monthly.
03

Personal and business mixed

Personal spending through business accounts blurs profit, tax and ownership.

We separate and classify every flow.
04

Payroll deductions missed

Salary tax under section 149, EOBI and social security that are not deducted and deposited become the employer's liability.

We run payroll with compliance built in.
05

Statements to the wrong framework

Financial statements that do not follow the reporting framework required for your company cause problems with audit and SECP.

We prepare to the right standard.
06

Filings that do not match the books

Sales tax, income tax and withholding returns prepared separately from the accounts contradict each other.

We file from the same records.

FAQs

Accounting questions we hear most

Have a question that is not here? Send it to us on WhatsApp and we will reply the same day.

What is the difference between bookkeeping and accounting?
Bookkeeping is recording every transaction accurately and keeping records organised. Accounting builds on that, with reconciliations, adjustments, financial statements and reports that explain how the business is performing. Most clients need both, and our monthly packages cover them together.
Do small businesses in Pakistan need to keep books?
Yes. Companies must keep books of account under the Companies Act, 2017, and every business needs reliable records to support its income tax and sales tax returns. FBR increasingly compares returns with bank data, so records matter even for sole proprietors.
Which accounting software do you work with?
We work in QuickBooks, Xero, Tally ERP, SAP and Oracle, and with well-kept spreadsheets for very small businesses. We can work in your existing system or recommend and set up one that suits your size and industry through our accounting system setup service.
Can you take over from our current accountant mid-year?
Yes. We review the existing books, identify gaps or errors, clean up the records and take over from any point in the year, so nothing is lost in the handover.
Do you handle payroll and EOBI?
Yes. Our payroll services cover salary calculation, income tax deductions on salaries, payslips, EOBI and provincial social security contributions and salary structuring.
Can you prepare financial statements for audit?
Yes. We prepare balance sheets, income statements and cash flow statements under the reporting framework that applies to your company, ready for your auditor, your tax return and your bank.
How often will I receive reports?
Most clients receive monthly management accounts and reconciliations, with quarterly reviews and annual financial statements. We agree the reporting schedule upfront and stick to it.
How much do your accounting services cost?
Fees are usually a fixed monthly amount based on your transaction volume and the services you choose. Your first consultation is free and you receive a written quote before any work starts.
