Audit and assurance

Assurance is about confidence in the numbers and the compliance

Every audit or review answers the same question for a different audience: can these figures and these filings be relied on? Our role is to make sure the answer is yes, by preparing the records, testing the controls and closing the gaps before anyone else finds them.

Under the Companies Act, 2017, companies must have their financial statements audited by a qualified auditor under section 247, and many other businesses are audited because a bank, donor, investor or tender requires it. Regulators can go further: FBR can order special audits of tax affairs under section 177(11) of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001 and section 32A of the Sales Tax Act, 1990, and SECP can direct a special audit under section 253 of the Companies Act. Listed companies must also maintain an internal audit function under the Code of Corporate Governance.

We work on the preparation and assurance side of all of this. For statutory and external audits, we close the books, prepare the financial statements and support your appointed auditor, who issues the audit opinion. We provide outsourced internal audit and compliance audits directly, reporting to owners, management or the audit committee. And we support clients through special audits, regulatory reviews and tax and regulatory due diligence on transactions.

Choosing the right service depends on who needs the assurance. If the law requires an audit of your company, start with statutory audit readiness. If a bank or donor is asking, external audit preparation fits. If the board wants to know whether controls work, internal audit is the answer, and if the question is whether every filing and registration is in order, a compliance audit. When FBR or SECP has already ordered an audit, special audit support and audit representation apply, and when a transaction is planned, due diligence comes first. Many clients combine two or three of these in a single annual plan.

Assurance work connects closely with our other services. Clean books come from our monthly accounting services, financial statements from preparation of financial statements, and transaction work extends into financial due diligence.

The best audit is the one where the auditor finds nothing to change. Our job is to make that more likely.
