Pakistan tax and compliance

Tax problems rarely stay in one box

A late income tax return changes your filer status, which changes the withholding on a property deal, which can end in a notice. When the people keeping your books, filing your returns and replying to FBR work as one team, nothing falls between the cracks.

Our Tax & Compliance practice, led by our Managing Partner, works across the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, the Sales Tax Act, 1990, the Federal Excise Act, 2005 and the provincial sales tax on services laws administered by PRA, SRB, KPRA and BRA, as well as the ICT services law in Islamabad. We file through FBR's IRIS portal, keep you on the Active Taxpayers List and handle the monthly, quarterly and annual deadlines that come with each tax.

When FBR asks questions, our LLB-qualified advocate and FBR-registered income tax practitioner represent you, from the first notice reply through audit, assessment and appeals. And because the same firm keeps books and accounts, every figure we file has a source.

Most of the tax disputes we resolve could have been prevented by a reconciliation nobody had time to do.

Common mistakes

Where Pakistan tax compliance usually goes wrong

These are the issues we see most often when a taxpayer comes to us for the first time.

01

Returns that do not reconcile

Income, wealth and withholding data that disagree with FBR's records lead to section 122 amendments and notices.

We reconcile before every filing.
02

Missed deadlines

Late returns bring penalties under section 182 and can take you off the Active Taxpayers List.

We diarise every due date.
03

Withholding defaults

Businesses that fail to deduct or deposit tax can be made liable under sections 161 and 205.

We run your withholding properly.
04

Lost input tax

Sales tax claimed on purchases your suppliers never declared is disallowed under section 8(1)(ca).

We match input tax monthly.
05

Ignored notices

No reply can lead to a best judgment assessment under section 121 and recovery action.

We act the day a notice arrives.
06

Appeal deadlines missed

Appeals to the Commissioner (Appeals) generally have to be filed within 30 days of the order or demand.

We file appeals on time.

FAQs

Pakistan tax questions we hear most

Have a question that is not here? Send it to us on WhatsApp and we will reply the same day.

What is the income tax return deadline in Pakistan?
Under section 118 of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, returns for the tax year ending 30 June are due by 30 September for individuals and AOPs and by 31 December for most companies. FBR sometimes extends these dates by notification, so we confirm the current deadline each year.
How often are sales tax returns filed?
Under the standard procedure, sales tax returns are filed monthly. Tax is paid by the 15th and the return is e-filed on IRIS by the 18th of the following month, with the sales annexure due earlier. Some sectors follow special procedures.
What should I do if I receive an FBR notice?
Do not ignore it, and do not reply in a hurry. Note the deadline and send the notice to a qualified adviser. We review notices the same day and prepare documented replies through our FBR notice response service.
Can you represent me before FBR?
Yes. Our FBR-registered income tax practitioner can act as your authorised representative, and our LLB-qualified advocate handles matters that need legal representation, including appeals.
Do you handle provincial sales tax on services?
Yes. We handle sales tax on services with PRA, SRB, KPRA and BRA, and ICT sales tax on services in Islamabad, alongside federal sales tax on goods with FBR.
What is the difference between tax consultancy and tax advisory?
Our tax consultancy is an ongoing relationship with a dedicated adviser who looks after your tax position throughout the year. Tax advisory covers specific questions or transactions, such as a property sale, a new contract or a restructuring.
Do you work with clients outside Islamabad?
Yes. Our office is in Gulberg Greens, Islamabad, but most of our Pakistan tax work is done remotely for clients across the country and overseas, by phone, WhatsApp, email and shared documents.
How much do your tax services cost?
Fees depend on the scope, the volume of transactions and the complexity involved. Your first consultation is free, and you receive a clear written quote before any work starts.
